Students are energetic, enthusiastic and they have a lot of free time. Engaging in social service while taking education brings students in contact with people of different start of society. Keeping this in mind, the University Grants Commission recommended that National Social Service cells should be established in the universities & colleges in India. Therefore, the University of Mumbai thinks NSS as an extreme medium to create a sense of social awareness amongst students. This College started NSS unit for this purpose in 2002. The unit gives admission to 150 students every year. Through posters, street plays and rallies, students proudly participate in AIDS, Polio, environment protection programs to create social awareness. Every year the unit organizes 7 days residential camp in nearby village. In the residential camp, NSS volunteers take active participation in tree plantation, cleanliness drive, health awareness programs, construction of bunds etc. The unit also organizes lectures of eminent persons on cross cutting issues. In this way, the unit creates opportunities for students to participate in district level training camp, National solidarity camp and also National flag hoisting ceremony in New Delhi. The university gives grace marks and certificate to students after completing their 120 hrs works in an academic year.
